Design a single page site for Salvador Dalí in 2 hours.

PROJECT BRIEF

Using my extensive knowledge on Salvador Dalí and Surrealism, studied through Art History courses, I translated the “old fashion” father of Surrealism in comparison to the contemporary, modern day Surrealist through a simple landing page.

The tools I used were Photoshop and Adobe Xd. Using a more user friendly prototyping platform, Xd helped create a prototype and animate key features quickly and effortlessly.

PROMPT

APPROACH

Surrealism can be defined as a revolutionary "human experience, rejecting a rational vision of life in favor of one that asserted the value of the unconscious and dreams."  As father of Surrealism, Dalí challenges the viewer to explore the conscious and unconscious mind and the irrationality of dreams.

FINAL DELIVERABLE

For this assignment, I had 2 hours to complete this exercise and this was my approach. My goal was to incorporate the Surrealistic aspect, while staying true to Dalí's narrative and give it a modern twist. I wanted to highlight and give tribute to Dalí similarly to a museum. As a result, I used neutral tones that enhances his artwork. Surrealism tends to focus on hyperrealism, so I wanted to cater to that by taking parts of his painting and layering them onto the page as if they were floating. I animated an indicator to his head that highlights the subhead title "surrealist, genius, visionary." In addition, I animated his eyes moving side to side that comments on Surrealism. Overall, I kept the design pretty minimal but gave hints of animation to enhance the Surrealist style.

PROCESS

PROJECT RETROSPECTIVE

This project was great in allowing me to rethink design. This playful final helped me to think quickly and to develop an interesting landing page that communicates everything I have learned thus far in this course. During this exercise, I wanted to do more research, make sure the images were high quality, and more.

DEMO VIDEO

If I had more time, I would have animated the cut out images to elevate the overall design. I would have also prototyped more into the Art Gallery section to build more content as this was a single page website. Overall, this was a great challenge and showcases how I can think quickly on my feet.
